Why this site was created
Imagine it is a brisk winter morning on the East Coast, conditions are borderline perfect. There’s solid swell, offshore wind, but you’re unsure what gear you need. Whether you are on the wrong board, in the wrong wetsuit, using the wrong wax, or whatever else it may be, this will likely take at least some of the fun out of your session, if not turn the morning into a bust.
That is where East Coast Surf Gear comes into play. We want to be your first line of information all things surf gear so that you can maximize fun, safety, and comfort on the most frigid days of winter and steamy summer days in the sun.

Additionally, some information is going to be very beginner targeted, so it may be irrelevant to some visitors, but our goal is that each visitor can learn something new.
What you’ll find here

Why east coast surfing is different
Surfing on the East Coast is very different from the waves most people picture in places like California, Hawaii, and locations outside the U.S. Our surf is largely storm-driven, meaning conditions change quickly and good waves often arrive in short windows rather than steady, predictable swells. With constantly shifting sandbars and strong local winds affecting wave shape, surfers here have to adapt to conditions that can look completely different from one session to the next.
Another difference is our region’s wide range of water temperatures: from warm summer sessions to freezing winter swells requiring full wetsuits, boots, gloves, and hoods, which also shapes the experience. East Coast surfing rewards adaptability: reading forecasts carefully, surfing when conditions line up, and choosing versatile gear that works across imperfect but rewarding waves.
We look forward to helping you surf the East Coast safely and comfortably all year long, which means helping you make purchases that align with your needs and abilities.
-Your Friendly Neighborhood Surfer
